Just over half of all traders in Sörmland who responded to the Swedish trade survey state that they have been exposed to theft, burglary, threats or attempted fraud.

Only Örebro county has more affected traders.

- Unfortunately, we still see no light at the end of the tunnel.

Every day traders around Sweden are exposed to theft, threats or even violence.

Like last year, the propensity to report is far too low.

These figures are an understatement for responsible authorities, says Nina Jelver, Acting Head of Security at Swedish Trade, in a press release.

Access bans reduce the problems

According to the security barometer, it is mainly food stores, electronics stores and sports and leisure stores that are affected, and the vast majority are exposed to theft or petty theft.

Every year, SEK 8.5 billion is stolen.

According to Swedish Trade, it is the law on access bans that works best to put an end to the problems.

- We see in black and white how an access ban creates security in Swedish stores, but from Swedish Trade's side we are asking for more transparency.

Far too many applications for access bans are rejected on very unclear grounds or because there is no conviction, which should not be necessary.

In the access ban, we have a tool that can make a real difference.

Let's be able to use it fully, says Nina Jelver.
