• Target of malicious messages, the mayor of Rezé Hervé Neau killed himself on February 11.

  • If no suspect was found, the investigation showed that “all the letters come from the same printer”, indicates this Thursday the public prosecutor of Nantes Renaud Gaudeul.

The investigations are closed.

Almost a year after the suicide of the mayor of Rezé Hervé Neau in the premises of the Town Hall, the mystery remains.

This Thursday evening, the public prosecutor of Nantes Renaud Gaudeul announced that the investigation opened for moral harassment, the day after the tragedy, had so far yielded nothing.

"We have no lead that remains to be explored," said the prosecutor.

The investigations can only resume if new elements are brought to our attention.

The 58-year-old left-wing man, who killed himself by hanging on February 11, left a handwritten letter for his relatives, in which he revealed the existence of a "crow".

“Eight anonymous letters, all typed, were found in his office, confirms the prosecutor.

The Monday following the death, five others were received at the town hall of Rezé, for people working there.

A missive had also been sent to the Nantes editorial staff of the

Ouest-France

newspaper .

In these letters were detailed "several facts and gestures" (none constituting an offense but real for the most part) relating to the private life of Hervé Neau, "including extremely precise situations, which confirms that the "raven" had directly or indirectly a very good knowledge of the mayor and the functioning of the town hall", notes Renaud Gaudeul.

“The mayor explained his gesture exclusively by these letters received since the beginning of January, he continues.

We found no other element that could explain the passage to the act.

Thanks to numerous hearings in the professional, political, friendly and family entourage of the former mayor of Rezé elected in 2020, "tracks opened and then closed" but no suspect was ultimately found.

However, technical investigations were able to show that "all the letters come from the same printer, an HP color Laser jet LP1515", the latter not having been found despite several searches of equipment.

The exploitation of the letters, which contained “several spelling errors, made voluntarily or involuntarily” did not make it possible to find DNA, nor to go back to its sender.

A tribute will be paid to Hervé Neau on Saturday at the end of the morning (11:30 a.m.) at the Balinière park, in Rezé.
