A "major" deal point was dismantled in Vaulx-en-Velin (Rhône) after the interception of a go fast from Rotterdam and the arrest of seven people, the police announced on Thursday, making report of a drug seizure for an amount of more than 1.3 million euros on resale.

The address, chemin des Barques, found itself in the news at the time of the fire in mid-December which killed 10 people in this same street.

Nearly 2 kilos of heroin and cocaine were then discovered during a search, then another 10.5 kilos in the "thorough search" of a vehicle.

A turnover of 20,000 euros per day

The deal point "generated nearly 20,000 euros in daily turnover", according to estimates by the authorities, and supplied "heroin and cocaine to very many drug addicts in the Rhône and neighboring departments", a specified the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) of the Rhône in a press release.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin congratulated on Twitter the "police officers who dismantled the biggest deal point in the Lyon area", and "give back the tranquility they deserve to the inhabitants of Vaulx-en-Velin".

Investigations into drug trafficking were initiated in April 2022, and a previous case had already been carried out at the end of 2020 "in this same sector", it is specified in the press release.

The suspects were presented to the Lyon prosecutor's office, which requested their placement in pre-trial detention.
