The Chambéry Court of Appeal (Savoie) confirmed on Wednesday the guilt of the former director of the Belle-Plagne tourist office in the death of a child.

This one was overturned by a truck which was transporting equipment to a tourist event.

The facts date back to July 11, 2017, reports Le Dauphiné.

While an automotive event in connection with the tourist office was preparing in Belle-Plagne, a truck parked without parking brake rolled down a slope and hit a 7-year-old boy and his grandfather.

The child died instantly.

One year suspended sentence

Five protagonists were tried in April 2021 by the Albertville court and sentenced to suspended prison terms for natural persons and fines of 100,000 euros for legal persons.

Only the director of the tourist office appealed.

The court of appeal confirmed his sentence, set at one year in prison suspended and 1,500 euros fine.

The man will also have to pay 1,000 and 3,000 euros to each of the civil parties for appeal costs.
