A system extended to all young offenders.

The approximately 300 teenagers currently placed in reinforced educational centers (CER) will now be able to request to participate in these five-week courses supervised by soldiers, indicated the Ministry of Justice.

Until now, three experiments had been launched since the announcement of the system in July 2021, in particular in Coëtquidan (Morbihan), with the objective of "promoting the social and professional integration of minors and young adults" supported by the protection Juvenile Judiciary (PJJ).

The results of these experiments proved to be “very positive”, particularly in terms of the “professional integration path” of the participants, according to the Chancellery.

Also, "the courses of military inspiration will be generalized to all the reinforced educational centers", on a voluntary basis and after agreement of the PJJ.

Retired soldiers to supervise the device

To supervise the participants, the ministry intends to call on "retired soldiers", alongside professionals from the PJJ.

The Minister of Justice, Eric Dupond-Moretti, and the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, will also sign Thursday, during a trip to Montigny-lès-Metz (Moselle), an agreement to facilitate access for young offenders to the voluntary military service (SMV), via a short course to discover this device.

An agreement to develop the possibility of carrying out works of general interest (TIG) within the army will also be signed.

In total "1,000 young people will participate" in these three devices - military-inspired course, discovery of the SMV and TIG within the army, estimates the Chancellery.
