"Today's review is another step in a thorough and planned process that the Department of Justice continues to conduct and that we will continue to facilitate and fully support," attorney Bob Bauer announced in a statement.

The search is part of the investigation into possible mishandling of classified documents, and follows a 13-hour search of Biden's home in Wilmington that was conducted on January 20.

Classified documents were found at the Wilmington residence, and some handwritten notes were also seized.

The documents were from both Biden's time as a senator and as vice president, while the handwritten notes were from his time as vice president.

Third location under investigation

Classified documents have also been found at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, a think tank linked to the University of Pennsylvania where Biden was previously an emeritus professor.

Biden's home in Rehoboth Beach is the third location under investigation by authorities.

The president has voluntarily allowed the Justice Department access to his various residences as part of their investigation.

Previously, Biden's personal lawyers searched his residence in Rehoboth Beach, and stated that they did not find any official or classified documents there.

Documents with several politicians

Recently, classified documents have been found with several American politicians.

In August 2022, a search was conducted at former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, during which FBI agents seized 33 boxes containing over 100 classified documents.

One of the classified documents must have contained information about another country's nuclear weapons capability.

At the end of January this year, classified documents were also found with former Vice President Mike Pence at his home in the state of Indiana.

Pence has said he was unaware the documents were in his residence - but that his ignorance was no excuse.
