Bad news for the French.

Since midnight February 1, the price of kWh has increased by 15%.

A significant but limited increase thanks to the tariff shield put in place by the State.

However, in this Parisian building, the increase in electricity prices worries the inhabitants, who expect to see their condominium fees increase in the coming weeks.

Savings, toll prices, taxis... February 1, 2023 will not escape this and brings with it its share of good and bad news.

Among the latter: the rise in the price of electricity.

Despite the extension of the tariff shield, for the 20 million French people benefiting from a regulated tariff contract, the bill will increase by 15% for equivalent consumption, an increase of around twenty euros per month, estimates the State.

Increase in charges

"It's certainly 15% on my bill, but it's also an increase that will impact my expenses", alarmed Muriel.

Resident of a Parisian building, she takes the elevator every day to reach her apartment on the fourth floor.

She also turns on the lights in the hallway so she can open her door and go home.

Small daily habits that will now cost the inhabitants of the building a little more money.

"In fact, it's not just 15% on my own bill. And it's all my purchasing power that will be reduced", judges the Parisian.

And in this 80-unit building, all the residents assure that they will have to tighten their belts a little more.

"Pandora's box does not exist"

"We will eat a little more pasta and potatoes" jokes at the microphone of Europe 1, Valérie, who lives with her husband on the fifth floor.

And continues: "Our salaries have not increased. And Pandora's box does not exist".

Same story in the apartment opposite: Xavier and his wife, parents of a one-year-old boy, nevertheless felt protected by the tariff shield put in place by the State.

"We were really convinced that thanks to the French genius, we would be protected because we had everything to be happy, let's be honest. But it's true that there, we ask ourselves questions", explains the Parisian.

But without a tariff shield, the young dad's bill would have doubled on February 1, according to the estimate of the Energy Regulatory Commission.
