The Minister of Education, Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, stressed the need to develop innovation skills among students, so that they can excel in practical life after graduation, the ability to compete, and represent the country in international forums, indicating that laxity in keenness on innovation loses a lot of development. in his life, whether in the private sector, the government sector or as entrepreneurs.

Al-Falasi mentioned the skills that students should focus on in order to enter the world of entrepreneurship and the various practical sectors, indicating that these skills are diverse, and it is required to support the qualification of the student so that he can face the successive developments in the labor market, which witnesses the disappearance of jobs and the emergence of others continuously, on a monthly basis. and annual.

He continued, "The basic pillar of development and qualification is that a person pursues his continuous learning (lifelong learning), while taking care to learn technology, which is the language of the age." work, and different aspects of life.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Education launched the National Science, Technology and Innovation Festival, which will continue until the fifth of this month. The new edition of the festival (the sixth edition) includes the launch of a new competition for entrepreneurs, the “Young Entrepreneurs” competition.

The festival will witness the presentation of 23 cash prizes to the winners in the various categories, in addition to the main prize, which is the Emirates Award for the Young Scientist, and the “Next Entrepreneur” competition.

The Minister of Economy, Abdullah bin Touq, said during the festival: “There are many initiatives in the ministry that support innovation, including what enhances the presence of young entrepreneurs in the economic arena, and the main project in it is the home of entrepreneurship, which aims for the UAE to become home to 20 billion companies in The world during the year 2031, by finding companies and attracting others so that the largest companies in the world are located in the UAE.

He added that «the project focused on three basic issues, aimed at raising the skills of students and entrepreneurs, by qualifying them to deal with companies and ways of establishing them, and finally transferring these companies to the world, including partnerships with international companies in South Korea and others».

Bin Touq stated that the UAE is currently ranked first in the Arab world and 31st globally in the Global Innovation Index 2022, and we have the ingredients and capabilities that enable us to develop until we become the first in the world in this index, and serve the economic environment in general.

He pointed out that the UAE is amending several legislations and laws that allow the innovator to easily do business, own the company completely, and there are advanced varieties of new company systems, in addition to providing flexibility in the procedures for establishing companies in the country, stressing that these procedures are a major part of the internal development of the legislative system.

Dr. Amna Al-Dahhak Al-Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Care and Capacity Building Sector and Head of the Higher Committee of the Festival, said: “100 student projects in four categories are participating in the festival, in its new edition, which are science and technology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, biological sciences and the environment, social and behavioral sciences, and these projects I reached the final stage after qualifiers from 2,274 projects that participated in the first stage.

She pointed out the difficulty in choosing projects for the new version, given the great development we are witnessing in the quality of advanced projects, as the points of difference between projects were very close, which made it difficult to choose the best 100 qualified projects, noting that the number of students who submitted their projects from public, private and applied schools is 4475 students. and freshman.
