On Wednesday evening, the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, called for an urgent security meeting to be held after the occupation army announced that it had intercepted a missile fired from the Gaza Strip. On the other hand, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement announced that a delegation of its leaders will start a visit to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, early next week.

The Israeli army announced - in a statement - that the sirens had been activated, and it also explained at a later time that the Iron Dome "successfully responded to one missile" launched from the Gaza Strip.

Far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said in a statement, "I call for an urgent meeting of the security cabinet (the security cabinet) tonight to discuss ways to respond to a rocket launch from Gaza."

Last Friday, the Israeli army launched raids on military sites belonging to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which controls the Gaza Strip, after firing rockets at settlements bordering the Strip.

The rocket fire and air raids did not result in casualties on either the Palestinian or Israeli sides.

This came in the wake of the most violent Israeli operation in years in the occupied West Bank last Thursday, which resulted in the death of 10 Palestinians in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.

As a result of the bloody Israeli operation, 7 settlers were killed last Friday in a shooting carried out by a Palestinian in a settlement neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem.

On Saturday, a Palestinian wounded two Israelis with bullets in the Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem, before being wounded and arrested.

Last January, the Israeli occupation forces killed 35 Palestinians, including 8 children, while 224 Palestinians, including 61 children, were killed in the West Bank and Gaza in the past year 2022.

Visit to Cairo

In a related context, Islamic Jihad spokesman Dawood Shehab said that a delegation of the movement's leaders, headed by Secretary-General Ziyad al-Nakhala, will start a visit to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, early next week.

He explained in a statement to Anadolu Agency that the movement had received an invitation from Cairo about two weeks ago to visit it.

This visit comes in light of the tense field conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories and inside Israeli prisons, where thousands of Palestinian prisoners are held.

Cairo had previously mediated an end to rounds of escalation and a cease-fire between the Palestinian factions and Israel.

However, Shehab said that the visit is not primarily related to the ongoing security developments in the Palestinian arena.

He explained that the delegation will meet a number of Egyptian officials, headed by the head of the intelligence service, and will discuss various issues with the Egyptian brothers and discuss current developments with them.

Until now, no statement has been issued by the Egyptian authorities regarding the visit of the Islamic Jihad delegation.
