Yesterday, the United States announced the imposition of new trade restrictions on 7 Iranian entities, accusing them of producing drones that Russia used to bomb Ukrainian regions, while Iran confirmed that these sanctions would not affect its military industry.

The US Department of Commerce said that the names of the seven Iranian companies and organizations were included in the "entity list" that engages in activities that threaten US national security and foreign policy interests.

The names of these entities were added in a preliminary disclosure to the Federal Register, the official daily newspaper in the United States, and will be officially published on Wednesday.

The Iranian entities are the Aircraft Engine Design and Manufacturing Company, the Air Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, the Jihad Organization for Self-Sufficiency and Research of the Revolutionary Guards, the Oji Parvaz Mado Navar Company, the Paravar Pars Company, the Quds Aviation Industry Company, and the Shahed Aerospace Industries Company.

Entities supplying goods and technology to these Iranian entities would have to obtain a license first, and it is expected that such licenses will be denied, except for those for food and medicine.

Iran's mission to the United Nations in New York said, "The sanctions will not affect Iran's ability to produce drones because its drones are entirely domestically produced."

"This is a strong indication that the drones that were shot down in Ukraine, which were made with components from Western countries, do not belong to Iran," she added.

On the other hand, Western countries are seeking to supply Ukraine with anti-drone systems, as Canada announced earlier this month that it would buy Ukraine a "NASAMS" surface-to-air missile system, after the United States provided Ukraine with two systems of the same type.

Britain, the United States and the Netherlands pledged to provide Ukraine with other defense systems such as the Patriot, especially after Russia intensified targeting the Ukrainian energy sector with missiles and drones.
