According to the National Education Agency's forecast, there will be a shortage of around 12,000 qualified teachers and preschool teachers in 2035.

- It must become more attractive to become a teacher and there must be less mess in the classrooms so that the teachers enjoy their jobs, says Minister of Education Mats Persson (L) during a visit to Linköping University.

Fast track for graduates

Previously, there was a 1.5-year teacher training course for graduates.

Since this autumn, they have also started an even shorter teacher training course for graduates that can be completed in one year.

The education is available at ten universities, including in Linköping.

- We want the best students to become teachers and hopefully they have some work experience with them.

I think the entire Swedish school will benefit from that, says Mats Persson.
