"Barbaric Salvation"...a scenario of absurdity!
The movie “Savage Redemption” takes place in a small American town, in which we meet John Shelby (Jack Huston), a drug addict who works in a factory, and his life is radically transformed when he asks for the hand of his girlfriend, Ruby (Willa Fitzgerald), and they decide to quit addiction and start A new life, and they do so until one of the drug dealers pressures the girl, who is alone, deceiving her that John has returned to addiction again, so she dies of an overdose.
After the death of his fiancée, Shalaby decides to take revenge on everyone who contributed to her death, and begins to track every member of the chain of drug distribution and sale, from the bottom to the top, leaving behind a bloodbath all over the town, so Sheriff Sharker (Robert De Niro) chases him before the violence increases. And he destroys himself in the midst of this barbaric redemption.
The story of the movie is absolutely absurd;
What is the purpose of tracking down and killing this chain of drug dealers?
After all, no single individual will be able to eliminate this trade that is so widespread in the United States.
But even if we overlook the unreasonable motive;
The division of the scenario itself was illogical by setting the stage for the central event of the film and the journey of revenge that lasted more than 40 minutes, and without a real establishment of any of the characters, whether the hero, the heroine or the sheriff.
During this period, the viewer only followed the fiancé's journey in getting rid of drugs, while trying to poeticize the relationship.
If we put that aside, we find that there is a whole family whose members appeared at the beginning of the film, and they are the relatives of the girl Ruby, including her sister’s husband, John Malkovich, and they had no presence after that in the events, as well as with regard to the hero’s physical capabilities and his experience in dealing with weapons and confronting the most powerful dealers Simply drugs.
This absurd scenario was accompanied by a modest directing by director Randall Emmett in his second directorial work, after his movie “Midnight in the Switchgrass”, which also constituted a puzzle for movie lovers, due to the participation of veteran actor Bruce Willis in such a modest work, It received a rating of only 8% on the "Rotten Tomatoes" website, and its stars did not attend its first movie show.
