According to figures provided by the Ministry of the Interior, domestic and sexual violence has particularly increased.

Voluntary assault and battery outside the family and scams are also on the rise.

Almost all crimes and offenses increased in 2022, in particular domestic violence (+17%) and sexual violence (+11%), according to a report from the statistical service of the Ministry of the Interior (SSMSI) published on Tuesday.

Voluntary assault and battery outside the family (+14%) and scams (+8%) are also increasing markedly.

Just like home burglaries (+11%) or vehicle thefts (+9%) which had fallen sharply during the Covid-19 crisis.

The increases in the number of homicides (948, or 69 more victims than in 2021, according to still provisional data), intentional assault and battery, sexual violence and scams "continue those observed before the health crisis", notes the SSMSI.

Increase in non-violent thefts

As for thefts without violence, burglaries, thefts of vehicles or vehicle accessories, they "increase markedly in 2022" after having "decline sharply during the health crisis", adds the SSMSI.

These offenses remain "below their pre-crisis level, with the exception of thefts of accessories from vehicles", further specifies the SSMSI.

Among all the crimes and misdemeanors recorded, only violent thefts are down (-4%), continuing a "regular decrease that began in 2013".
