Washington issues a new warning of possible attacks in Turkey
Today, Monday, the US embassy in Turkey warned its citizens of possible attacks on churches, synagogues and diplomatic missions in Istanbul, in the second warning of its kind in just four days, following the incidents of burning the Holy Qur’an in Europe.
"Potential imminent revenge attacks may occur in areas frequented by Westerners in the city, such as the Beyoglu, Galata, Taksim and Istiklal neighborhoods," the US embassy said in an updated security alert.
The embassy added that the Turkish authorities are investigating the matter.
Several embassies in Ankara, including those of the United States, Germany, France and Italy, issued security alerts on Friday over possible attacks in response to separate incidents of Quran burning in Sweden, the Netherlands and Denmark.
On Saturday, Turkey warned its citizens of "possible Islamophobic, xenophobic and racist attacks" in the United States and Europe.
