• Terrorism The first statement of the jihadist from Algeciras after his arrest: "They deserved it, the true faith is Allah"

  • Profile Yasin Kanza, the smile of the murderer who wanted to impose his radical creed with machetes

The judge of the National Court Joaquín Gadea has ordered the provisional detention without bail for the Moroccan Yasin Kanza for the deadly attack last Wednesday in

Algeciras (Cádiz)

that left one dead and four injured.

The magistrate attributes the crimes of murder and injuries for terrorist purposes, which could lead to reviewable permanent prison.

According to the Court, after taking his statement and analyzing the information obtained so far by the Police, the judge understands that the activity carried out by Kanza "can be classified as a directed jihadist attack, both against priests who profess the faith of the Catholic Church, as against Muslims who, according to the researcher, do not follow the precepts of the Koran".

The judge adds that the detainee "had not appeared as dangerous in police intelligence, being totally unknown to the Police."

Not only was "his religious rigor unknown" about him, but he had not been involved "in any type of altercation or incident that could have generated some type of police action," according to the report of the Police itself sent to the judge.

Gadea detects that the person investigated had suffered "a process of religious radicalization that triggered" the attack in Algeciras.

According to witness statements, the change in attitude would have occurred in the last month or month and a half, something that coincides with his actions on social networks.

Before starting this sudden process, Kanza had a "normal" life to the point that until recently he drank alcohol and smoked hashish.

Then came a "radical" change of habits, after which he regularly listened to the Qur'an through audio from his mobile phone.

The magistrate in charge of the investigation, which remains secret, draws a profile of the so-called

lone wolves

.

There are no indications that he had the help of third parties.

He himself declared this Monday before the judge that "he has not been directed by other people and that he has not sworn allegiance to any organization or terrorist group."

The detainee identifies "with a profile of a self-

indoctrinated

terrorist who acts individually and is not directly linked to a specific terrorist organization but who, ultimately, carries out his action on behalf of the jihadist phenomenon to which so many adhere remotely, generating a violent attack that causes terror in society and destabilizes social peace".

control of the situation

Kanza, says the judge, "maintained and maintains an implicit commitment to his vision of Islam, finding himself fully radicalized in jihadist terrorism culminating after an ideological indoctrination that could be described as rapid and that has ended with the commission of violent actions against other people, provoking, knowingly and intentionally the greatest possible damage, maintaining control of the situation at all times".

The judge insists that he was aware of his actions, ruling out the option that the attack was the product of a sudden mental problem.

He states that in the statements before the Police and the court, except for some contradiction in secondary issues, "he is capable of essentially reproducing the most important aspects of his action."

"The conduct of the investigated," says the judge, "was conscious and has defined its objectives, having the option of causing greater damage, it focuses its action specifically on the subjects it attacks, whom it deliberately chooses. The first of them against the priests, recognizing that their intention was to kill all the priests who were in the church".

In the attack, Kanzi wounded the priest of the

Church of San Isidro

after killing the sacristan of

Nuestra Señora de La Palma

.

"Secondly, he focuses his attack on a Moroccan whom he considers unfaithful, believing that he was before a converted Moroccan, for not practicing the authentic religion, and whom he attacked with the intention of killing him," he adds.
