An explosion Monday after midday prayers at a mosque inside the police headquarters in Peshawar, northwest Pakistan, left several dead and injured, according to police and hospital sources interviewed by AFP .

"We have received bodies of dead people, but we will give the number later," said a spokesman for Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, Muhammad Asim Khan, adding that 39 injured people had also been hospitalized.

In March 2022, an attack in a Shiite mosque in Peshawar caused the death of at least 56 people.
