Two gunmen fired into a group of people celebrating a birthday this weekend in a South African city, killing eight people and wounding three others, police said Monday.
"The owner of the house was celebrating his birthday party when two armed unknown men entered the courtyard"
on Sunday night, in the port city of Gqeberhade - formerly Port Elizabeth - "and started shooting at the guests," police said. it's a statement.
He added that the men
"fired indiscriminately"
and that "eight people were killed and three others are still fighting for their lives in the hospital. The owner of the house is among the dead."
An investigation into the attack has already been launched and police said the prosecution of the perpetrators of the massacre is also ongoing.
Shootings are common in South Africa, a country with one of the highest murder rates in the world, fueled by gang violence and alcohol.
