Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan repeated in a speech on Sunday that Turkey may approve Finland's NATO application even if Sweden rejects it.

In an interview with the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat (HS), Finnish President Sauli Niinistö states that the statement does not change Finland's line to join NATO together with Sweden.

Niinistö: Holding the line

He also points out that Erdogan's statement is vague and that Turkish rhetoric is constantly changing.

- We still stick to our line, says Niinistö to HS.

Niinistö states that his office has been in contact with Erdogan's advisers, and that Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto has spoken with his Turkish colleague.

At 1 p.m., Pekka Haavisto holds a press conference.
