Public sentiment was agitated over heating bills, and a political battle ensued.

The power of the people is because the Moon Jae-in government did not raise gas prices when other countries raised prices, and the Democratic Party confronted it by blaming the former government again.

Then, the team confirmed the facts about what the actual international gas price was and how the rate hikes in various countries were carried out accordingly.

This is reporter Lee Kyung-won.

[Ho-Young Joo/President of People's Power: (Unlike other countries) The Moon Jae-in regime's energy populism bomb is being overturned because it does not raise prices...

.]

[Park Hong-geun/Democratic Party Representative: The rapid rise in heating costs is a policy decision by the incompetent Yoon Seok-yeol government.

The government and ruling party's transfer of responsibility, please stop immediately.]

Based on international gas prices, we analyzed how residential gas rates were by country.

Let's start with the top graph, international gas prices.

In the second half of 2021, it rises over 3 times.

Now let's go to the residential gas rate graph below.

During this period, gas prices in EU countries will increase by 24%.

Korea, freeze.

Next, gas prices skyrocketed due to the start of the war in Ukraine early last year, but EU countries increased rates by an additional 5%, and Korea continued to freeze them.

After the presidential election, the Moon Jae-in administration begins to raise rates.

Around the middle of last year after the government changed to Yoon Seok-yeol, gas prices peaked and EU countries raised an average of about 20% more, but Korea only increased by a single digit.

It is true that our gas rate hike has been slow.

One more thing, the connection between gas price hikes and elections is also noticeable.

Gas rates are frozen and raised right after the presidential election, but temporarily frozen during local elections, and a full-fledged rate increase after the election, this is the pattern.

It's not just about our country.

Around the same time, there were presidential and general elections in France, and like ours, rates were raised a lot right after the elections.

A surge in international gas prices has been foretold along with signs of war in Ukraine in the second half of 2021.

However, none of the presidential campaign promises made by the ruling and opposition parties mentioned energy prices.

The data shows that this skyrocketing heating cost is not someone to blame in the political world.
