"Food Safety" monitors the ban and marketing of two types of fish during "February"

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority launched an awareness campaign for the implementation of Ministerial Resolution No. 1 of 2021 issued by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, regarding the regulation of fishing and marketing of “captive and cooper” fish during the breeding season in the fishing waters in all regions of the country, with the aim of giving these types of Fish have the opportunity to grow and reproduce to ensure their sustainability and to enhance and increase fish stocks.

The ministerial decision prohibits the fishing and marketing of caper and coffer fish for a period of three years, starting in the year 2021, during a specific period from February 1 to 28 of each year, which is the breeding period for caper and coffer fish. Fish markets and shops at the state level, whatever their source.

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Safety Authority monitors the implementation of this decision within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and the authority is keen to launch an awareness campaign to introduce the importance of implementing the decision to ensure the sustainability of fish wealth, as the awareness campaign is launched for the third year in a row, within the framework of cooperation between the authority and the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment with the aim of sustainable systems Natural resources and the promotion of live aquatic resources and the sustainability of local production, as the development and sustainability of fish wealth is a major goal within the objectives of the strategic plan for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the central fish markets in the emirate, fish shops in shopping centers, hotels, restaurants and kitchens, in addition to companies importing and re-exporting fish products.

The inspectors involved in the implementation of the campaign use several languages ​​to communicate the importance of implementing the decision and its effects on the continued growth of these two types of fish, such as Arabic, English, Malayalam and Urdu.

The Abu Dhabi Authority for Agriculture and Food Safety affirms that fisheries represent one of the wealth and natural resources that must be preserved, in a way that contributes to enhancing biodiversity and increasing fish stocks, noting that preventing fishing during breeding seasons is one of the scientific methods used globally in preserving fish. Fish stocks and their sustainability, in addition to ensuring the biological diversity of many aquatic organisms.


The decision calls on all fishermen whose fishing equipment contains these types of fish to release them into the sea again to ensure their safety and reproduction and to preserve their sustainability. According to the decision, the work of Ministerial Resolution No. 501 of 2015 regarding the regulation of fishing and marketing of Shaari and Arabian net fish during the breeding season is canceled.
