The Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding announced the winners of the eighth session of the award at a ceremony held in Doha on Sunday evening, where Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani honored the winners on behalf of the father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The first place in the category of translation from Arabic into Turkish was won by Muhyiddin Majid for translating the book “Interpretation of Beyond Nature” by Ibn Rushd, while Muhammad Amin Mashali and Muntaha Mashali came in second place for translating the book “The Spirit of Modernity” by Taha Abdel Rahman. And second place (repeated) by Numan Qawqli for translating the book “The Intellectuals in Arab Civilization” by Muhammad Abed Al-Jabri.

As for the third place, it went to Othman Baydar and Azjan Aqdagh for translating the book “Dalalat al-Hareen” by Musa bin Maimon, and the third place (repeated) went to Soner Doman for translating the book “Sharia’s Politics in Reforming the Shepherd and the Parish” by Ibn Taymiyyah.

Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani also crowned the winners of the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding in the Achievement category. The Arab Network for Research and Publishing from Lebanon won it for translating from English into Arabic, and both Ensan Yayinlari and Maana Yayinlari from Turkey won it for their role in translation from Arabic. The award was also won by the translators Muhammad Hakki Sotshin and Burhan Koroglu from Turkey, Muhammad Harb and Abdullah Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Azab (Egypt), from Romania Nicola Dobrishan and George Gregory, from Kazakhstan Ikhtiyar Balturi, and from Indonesia Abd al-Hay al-Katani.

In the category of dictionaries, the dictionary "Bahasa Language" by Muhammad Mansour Hamzah won.

The award also awarded a number of encouragement awards to each of the Association of Muslim Scholars in Tanzania - Swahili, Dar Al Karma (Egypt), Tamer Institute for Community Education, and the Egyptian translator Ahmed Shukry Mujahid.

It is noteworthy that the value of the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding amounts to two million US dollars, and in its eighth session for the year 2022, the Turkish language was adopted as a second main language after English, and 5 languages ​​in the categories of achievement, so that the award categories for this season will be: the category of translation from Arabic into English, The category of translation from English into Arabic, the category of translation from Arabic into Turkish, the category of translation from Turkish into Arabic, and the Achievement Award in the two main languages ​​(English and Turkish), as well as the categories of achievement awards in translations of selected languages ​​from and into Arabic, which are: Romanian and Kazakh, Swahili, Bahasa Indonesia, and Vietnamese as subsidiary languages.

The media spokeswoman for the award, the academic and novelist Hanan Al-Fayyad, said that the award celebrated in its eighth season a group of languages ​​​​that are adopted for the first time, such as Kazakh, Romanian and Vietnamese, and repeated some languages ​​such as Bahasa Indonesia and Swahili in the category of achievement, and repeated Turkish in the category of single books.

As for the winners, Al-Fayyad added to Al-Jazeera Net, their nationalities varied, as Arab and non-Arab translators won from countries whose languages ​​are opaque. Winners of translation from Turkish were honored at the award ceremony at the level of individuals and institutions. Translators in the following languages ​​were honored in the achievement category: Swahili, Bahasa Indonesia, Kazakh and Romanian.

Honoring the winners, according to the award’s spokeswoman, included institutions and individuals in the category of achievement. Winners were also honored in translation between the Arabic and English languages ​​in various subjects in the field of humanities and social sciences, and the topics varied between literary, intellectual, religious and others.
