There is not a lot of enthusiasm on the ground.

Guarded by armed soldiers, this school in Kram, a popular suburb of Tunis, awaits its first voters.

And this Sunday morning, they arrive in dribs and drabs to the point that the assessors have improvised a few football passes in the yard.

They are mainly men, retired men, like Abdelmajid, 70, a retired driver.

“

Voting, I see it as a duty,

he explains to us.

I come because I consider it a duty, yes.

Voting is what allows us to preserve our country.

Since the revolution, I have come to vote in all the polls.

Taïeb, 69 and a former civil servant, voted without much conviction: “

I am desperate.

There is no horizon, no future in this country.

We are only stepping back.

This is why I pushed my children to leave Tunisia.

Me, I'm old now, I'm a retiree.

Other than hoping it gets better, there's nothing else we can do.

 »

Me, I came to vote because I want our country to calm down and recover, to get back to work.
