Market research firm IDC said today, Sunday, that China's sales of smartphones fell 13% year-on-year in 2022, marking the largest decline in a decade as a result of consumers' cautious spending.

The total number of devices sold was 286 million, down from 329 million the previous year.

According to a company report, this means that the total sales of 2022 were the lowest since 2013, and this was also the first year since then that annual sales fell below 300 million.

Vivo, which manufactures Android phones, was the best-selling brand throughout the year, with a market share of 18.6%, but its total sales fell 25.1% year-on-year.

Honor came in second place among the best-selling brands, increasing its sales by more than 34%, but this was the result of a lower comparison baseline.

Apple ranked third in 2022.

And the strict controls to combat "Covid-19" in China weighed on the economy, which fell last year to one of its worst levels in nearly half a century.

The decline in smartphone sales in China is in line with the sector's performance around the world.

According to "IDC", sales of smartphones around the world reached 1.2 billion, the lowest level since 2013, equivalent to an annual decline of more than 11%.
