Three men suspected of having killed a Georgian national in the Nantes region in the spring of 2022 have been indicted for "murder in an organized gang" and imprisoned, we learned on Saturday from the Rennes prosecutor's office.

The context in which this crime occurred has not yet been determined, said Rennes public prosecutor Philippe Astruc.

The alert was given at the end of April 2022 by a relative of Elbrusi Garajaev, aged around 30 and residing in Rezé (Loire-Atlantique), who had not given any sign of life for almost a month. .

Two days later, the vehicle of the disappeared was discovered charred near Nantes, triggering the investigations.

According to the local press, which revealed the affair, Elbrusi Garajaev was an asylum seeker who had arrived in France two years earlier with his wife and children.

The investigation identified six suspects, three who could have traveled with the victim before his phone stopped broadcasting, and three others in connection with the fire in the vehicle.

Murder by organized gang

On January 24, investigators arrested the six suspects, aged 19 to 22.

Three are of French nationality, one of German nationality, another of Russian nationality and the last of Georgian nationality.

The alleged arsonists admitted the facts in police custody.

As for the three homicide suspects, they "acknowledged their presence during the murder of the victim but each presented themselves as spectators of the actions of the others", explained Astruc.

One of them ended up leading the police to the scene where the victim's body was discovered on Wednesday, January 25.

“According to the first conclusions of the autopsy (…), the victim presented in particular a major cranial trauma and wounds evoking the use of a knife”, specified the prosecutor of Rennes, stressing that the identity is “in progress of confirmation ".

The three men suspected of having destroyed the victim's vehicle were indicted and placed under judicial control.

Indicted for murder in an organized gang and complicity in the destruction of property, the three others were placed in pre-trial detention on Friday.
