Xinhua News Agency, United Nations, January 27 (Reporter Wang Jiangang) United Nations Secretary-General Guterres called for the establishment of "guardrails" in the online world on the 27th to prevent the spread of hate speech, extreme ideology and misinformation.

Guterres warned at the commemoration of the "International Holocaust Remembrance Day" held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York that day that the online world has accelerated the spread of hate speech, extreme ideology and misinformation around the world.

Many corners of the internet have become "toxic dumping grounds for hate and vicious lies," fueled by social media platforms and associated advertisers.

Guterres called on technology companies, policy makers, media and other relevant parties to take more actions to prevent the spread of hate speech and other information, and to establish enforceable "guardrails" in the online world.

During World War II, Nazi Germany set up the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland, and about 1.1 million people, including a large number of Jews, were killed in the concentration camp.

On January 27, 1945, the Soviet Red Army liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp.

On November 1, 2005, the plenary session of the 60th session of the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution, deciding to designate January 27 of each year as the "International Holocaust Remembrance Day".
