Former U.S. Vice President Pence talks about the secret document scandal: I didn't know that the classified document was in my house
Overseas Network, January 28 (Xinhua) According to a report by the American Broadcasting Corporation on January 27, regarding the discovery of more than a dozen confidential documents in the home of former US Vice President Pence, Pence said on the same day that he did not know that these confidential documents were in his home.
He also said he "made a mistake" and would take responsibility for it.
Pence said in a speech at Florida International University on the 27th: "Although I don't know that these confidential documents are in my private residence, one thing that needs to be clear is that these confidential documents should not appear in my private residence. Take full responsibility for the error."
Pence's attorney, Greg Jacobs, said the classified documents were found at Pence's home in Indiana last week and were subsequently turned over to the FBI.
The lawyer also said the documents appeared to have been "inadvertently boxed and shipped to Pence's home" and that the former vice president "didn't know" that the classified documents were at home.
The documents are being reviewed by the Justice Department's national security division and the FBI, according to people familiar with the matter.
After many people were involved in the confidential documents scandal, US media reported that the US National Archives has notified all living former presidents and former vice presidents, asking them to check whether there are classified materials or records in the file archives that have not been properly returned to the government.
