El Niño is an ocean phenomenon in the tropical part of the Pacific Ocean, which occurs due to changes in the atmospheric circulation in the area.

The last strong period of the phenomenon lasted between the years 2015-2016 in Sweden and it was counted as one of the warmest years if you look at the last 150 years.

Could be a new heat record

According to Gustav Strandberg, climate scientist and research leader at SMHI, there is a high probability that the warm phase will cause a new heat record to be broken in Sweden again.

- It must be remembered that the natural variations, such as El Nino and El Niña, revolve around the average climate we have, but if the global temperature increases steadily as it is now doing with global warming, it is clear that an extra warm year is warmer now than it was 50 years ago, says Gustav Strandberg.
