In Chad, the establishment of a committee responsible for organizing the next referendum on the form of the state has sparked strong protests.

Appointed on 25th January last, the National Commission in charge of organizing the constitutional referendum (Conorec) is considered too favorable to the transitional government and is even criticized in the power camp.

The day after the appointment of Conorec, eight political parties that support the transition published a press release to denounce a commission composed exclusively of representatives of the government and Parliament, all appointed by the transitional president.

The former Prime Minister, Pahimi Padacké Albert, usually not critical, has also called for the cancellation of the said decree.

"

The composition of this commission by decreed institutions, excluding the main political formations of the country and the main organizations of civil society, alerts to the underlying intentions of the government

", he writes.

Moreover, he also recalls, according to the roadmap for the transition, a consultation framework for the political parties must be put in place, before the commission in charge of organizing the referendum is set up, something which was not respected since it was only yesterday, Friday January 27, that the transitional president received the political parties to invite them to join the framework.

The spokesperson for the patriotic salvation movement, the party of the late President Idriss Déby Itno, Jean-Bernard Padaré, believes that these criticisms are not objective.

The transition should not drag on, there is no need to waste time in petty political calculations

 ," he replies.
