The 44-year-old man traveled to Syria in 2012, where he joined a violent Islamist group.

On social media, pictures of the man were uploaded where he posed next to dead bodies at an army base that had just been captured.

Last fall, the man was charged with crimes against humanity, because of the pictures.

According to the prosecutor, the photography and posing were considered offensive and derogatory towards the people.

The district court sentenced the man to four months in prison, but the sentence has now been appealed to the Court of Appeal.

- We believe that the verdict is wrong.

He considers himself innocent of the crimes he is accused of, says Thomas Olsson, the man's defense lawyer.
