Västmanland has the most police reports regarding basement and attic break-ins per 1,000 households in Sweden in 2022, according to a compilation made by the insurance company IF.

Köping tops the list in the county and here there were 162 police reports regarding warehouse thefts, which is a massive increase from 23 reports in 2019.

- It is good that the problem is being noticed.

When there are a lot of crimes, it's something we have to deal with and take a closer look at, says municipal police officer Jan Sköldberg.

Is it a difficult crime to investigate?

- It is often the case that we do not have the resources we need to carry out complete technical investigations on every break-in in basement and attic storage.

When we do, we don't always have tracks to go on.

In the clip, Jan Sköldberg talks about what the police can do about the problem.
