This was reported on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

On January 27, the Latvian charge d'affaires was summoned to the ministry because of the decision of the Latvian authorities to lower the level of diplomatic relations with Russia.

Moscow strongly protested and stressed that the justification for this step by referring to some kind of "solidarity" with other Baltic countries is not accepted.

The Foreign Ministry also stated that they did not consider it necessary to wait until the date indicated by Riga for the completion of their missions by the ambassadors.

“Ambassador of Latvia M. Riekstins was ordered to leave the Russian Federation within two weeks,” the message says.

Earlier, the Latvian Foreign Ministry announced that the republic would lower the level of diplomatic relations with Russia from February 24 as a sign of solidarity with Estonia.
