After a turbulent day in Israel and the West Bank, a man opened fire in East Jerusalem.

According to the city's emergency services, ten people are said to have been seriously injured, and at least seven have been killed in what Israeli police describe as a "terrorist attack".

The killing comes barely 24 hours after rockets were fired from Gaza, which in turn responded with airstrikes against Gaza.

According to the Israeli military, three of the Palestinian rockets were intercepted, and no one was injured.

The death toll means that Thursday is the deadliest day in years in the occupied territory.

In connection with the air strike, at least nine Palestinians are said to have been killed and the Palestinian authorities announced that they are breaking their security cooperation with Israel.
