A 62-year-old retiree living on a farm in Arlanc (Puy-de-Dôme) cut off his left hand while chopping wood last December.

Thanks to good reflexes, rapid intervention and the skill of the surgeons, his hand was finally reimplanted a few hours later, reports

Le Parisien

, this Thursday.

A slow rehabilitation

Just after the accident, the retiree indeed had the reflex to make a tourniquet.

His wife meanwhile put her hand in the freezer.

Living in an isolated area, the couple waited twenty minutes for the firefighters to arrive.

The man was then rushed by helicopter to Beaumont, where he was immediately taken care of by a specialized team from the Châtaigneraie clinic, one of the most renowned in France for this type of intervention.

A few weeks after the accident, the sexagenarian can already move his fingers again.

His rehabilitation continues.

He will know within six months what sequelae he will keep from this accident.

A happy outcome despite everything for the retiree, who indicated that he preferred to “keep his hand”.
