The Russian government has expanded the capabilities of the Online University Admissions service, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers said.

In particular, new state information systems have been additionally connected to the service, including the Physical Culture and Sports digital platform, the state information resource about children who have shown outstanding abilities, an information system in the field of volunteerism development, and a number of others.

“Achievements in these areas give additional points for admission to a university.

For example, they can be obtained if the applicant has a badge for completing the TRP complex or winning the All-Russian Olympiads in school subjects, ”the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers said in a statement.

In addition, thanks to the innovations, some of the information that previously had to be filled in manually will now, if necessary, be loaded automatically due to the integration of information systems, the press service explained.

It is clarified that information on admission, as before, will be available in the applicant's personal account on the public services portal immediately after the decision of the selection committee.

This feature will allow applicants entering different areas or universities to track the competitive situation in real time and make a quick decision.

Recall that the Ministry of Education and Science announced the launch of the service "Admission to the university online" on June 19, 2020.

At the time of launch, the service was available for online admission to 54 universities in the country.

At the beginning of January 2021, the Russian government approved the regulation on the functioning of the "Admission to the University Online" service.

In August 2022, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Valery Falkov, during a meeting with the participation of the President of Russia, said that a feature of the admission campaign in 2022 was the massive use of the public services portal by applicants for submitting documents.

According to the minister, in previous years, three methods were used to submit documents to universities: in person, by sending documents by mail or through the website of the university.

Falkov added that in 2022, for the first time in a pilot mode, all applicants without exception got the opportunity to submit documents through the State Services, which, in turn, increased the availability of universities for applicants.

“Last year it was only 480,000, this year it is 2.8 million applications.

The number of applicants who used the “State Services” increased by 7.5 times: if last year it was 44.5 thousand, then this year it is 336 thousand,” Falkov said.

The head of the Ministry of Education and Science also noted that 17.5 thousand applicants were enrolled in state-funded places, having submitted all documents without exception remotely through the State Services.

At the same time, Falkov said that the massive use of the service by applicants entailed an additional burden on university staff, but they "did a decent job."
