On the 25th (local time), at least one person was killed and four others injured in a suspected terrorist attack in Algeciras, a port city in southern Spain.

According to the Associated Press and Spain's EFE News, a man broke into the 'San Isidro' Catholic Church at around 7 pm on the same day and attacked a priest who was conducting Mass at the time with a large knife 'Machete'.

The priest, who was attacked with a weapon, was seriously injured, but fortunately, foreign media reported that there was no danger to life.

The man then moved to the Cathedral of Our Lady of La Palma, a 5-minute walk away, saw the manager of the church evacuate after seeing him, and chased and killed him.

Three other people were also said to have been injured in his attack.

The identity of the other injured or the extent of their injuries were not known.

The suspect shouted "Allah!" as he brandished a weapon at the victims, Spain's EFE news agency reported.

Police arrested the suspect in Alta Square, near the Cathedral of Our Lady of La Palma.

The Associated Press said the suspect's identity was not known, but EFE said his name was Yasin Kanza.

The exact motive was not known, but the Spanish prosecutor's office tentatively determined that the attack "appears to be a terrorist attack".

The Spanish court, which tries terrorism and serious financial crimes, has also started an investigation into this case.

"My deepest condolences to the family of the caretaker of the cathedral who died in the horrific attack in Algeciras," Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Twitter.

The city of Algeciras raised the flag and designated this day as a day of remembrance.
