In Cameroon, journalists are still mobilized to push the authorities to shed light on the circumstances of the sudden disappearance of Martinez Zogo.

The TV presenters were all dressed in black as a sign of mourning yesterday on the air.

One action among many others which ultimately aim to set up an independent commission of inquiry into the journalist's assassination.

At the initiative of the SNJC, the main union of journalists in Cameroon, Wednesday, January 25 was declared a "national day" in the country's newsrooms.

Marion Obam, the president of this union, explains the motivations: “

We observed a day of national mourning.

All media was black.

Men and women of the media, we mourn because one of our own died in the most cynical, savage, inhumane, odious way possible, while he was in the exercise of his profession.

Independent Commission of Inquiry

The SNJC plans to use all its influence to obtain from the authorities the establishment of an independent commission of inquiry, the only guarantee that could guarantee for the union that all the light is shed on the assassination of Martinez. Zogo: “

We are working on a concrete proposal for an independent commission of inquiry where the SNJC must be present, a leader, to follow the progress of the investigation.

“

One death too many

 ”

“

We want to know

, says Marion Obam,

who will take care of this investigation, how the investigation will be carried out, who is the prosecutor who will be in charge of it so that this time, we can follow?

We want today, with the death of Martinez Zogo – one death too many – to have the truth about what happened

 ”.

An action that is carried out in synergy with international trade union organizations, including - among others - the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).
