The organizer of the tour of the British musician Roger Waters, who has been accused of anti-Semitism, distances itself from statements by the controversial artist, but does not cancel his concerts of his own accord.

Waters, who supports the anti-Israel BDS movement, is scheduled to perform at Frankfurt's Festhalle at the end of May.

In local politics, however, there is now more and more protest.

Most recently, all three promising candidates for the post of Frankfurt Mayor, the CDU politician Uwe Becker, the Greens Manuela Rottmann and the Social Democrat Mike Josef, called for the concert in the Festhalle to be canceled.

In addition to Frankfurt, the founder of the band Pink Floyd also performs in Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg and Munich.

The Hamburg concert promoter FKP Scorpio, which organizes the musician's German tour, has now declared that the "signing of the contract and the associated obligations for the Roger Waters shows in question occurred at a time before the artist made statements or we were aware of individual statements had that we ourselves find problematic and in no way reflect our own views.”

You are in close contact with the management of Roger Waters and have informed it of your own views.

"This includes, among other things, that we clearly condemn the BDS and Russia's terrible war of aggression," said a spokesman for the agency.

Nevertheless, the promoter continues to promote the musician's "This Is Not A Drill" tour on his website, without referring to the debates about it or distancing himself from Waters' political positions there.

Instead, the musician is dubbed a "veteran of rock" who can look back on a "remarkable career".

It has long been known that Waters supports the BDS movement.

The acronym stands for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions.

At least part of the movement is classified as anti-Semitic.

Omar Barghouti, for example, one of the most well-known BDS activists, stated in an interview in 2011 that no Palestinian would ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.

The fact that several members of the Ruangrupa artist group, which curated the Documenta in Kassel, signed BDS appeals, also led to heated debates.

Roger Waters has compared Israel to South Africa's apartheid state in the past.

The musician also puts pressure on other artists who want to perform there and calls for an economic and cultural boycott of the Israeli state.

At previous performances by the musician, he let a plastic pig with a Star of David float through the hall.

In the Ukraine conflict, Waters has recently shown himself to be a supporter of Russia.

He accused NATO of provoking the war and called American President Joe Biden a “war criminal”.
