Today, Wednesday, the Israeli occupation forces killed a Palestinian youth near Qalqilya and arrested 16 others in separate areas of the West Bank, and large numbers of Israeli police and intelligence officers stormed the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

This comes as the Israeli Knesset (parliament) announced today the extension of the emergency law in the West Bank for an additional 5 years.

Today, Wednesday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said that the occupation forces shot Aref Abdel Nasser Aref Lahlouh, 20, near Qalqilya, in the northern West Bank, for allegedly "carrying out a stabbing attack."

While eyewitnesses confirmed that an Israeli military force shot a Palestinian at the entrance to the "Kedumim" settlement, and that the Israeli authorities closed the site.

Arrests and confrontations

In a related context, the Palestinian Prisoners Club said that the occupation forces arrested 16 Palestinians during a campaign of incursions and raids that affected areas in Hebron, Bethlehem, occupied Jerusalem and Ramallah.

It also raided the house of the prisoner Islam Al-Froukh's family, in preparation for its demolition, on charges of planning and carrying out two bombings that took place in Jerusalem last November, which resulted in the killing of a settler and a number of injuries.

Large forces of the Israeli occupation army stormed the Shuafat refugee camp, north of Jerusalem.

Sources told Al-Jazeera that the occupation forces stormed the Al-Salam suburb of the camp and surrounded the house of martyr Uday Al-Tamimi, in preparation for its demolition.

It is noteworthy that the martyr Al-Tamimi had carried out a shooting attack at the Shuafat camp checkpoint last October, which resulted in the death of an Israeli female soldier and the serious injury of another security guard.

A few days later, Al-Tamimi was able to carry out another shooting attack targeting the guards of the "Ma'ale Adumim" settlement, east of Jerusalem, and led to his death.

At dawn today, an Israeli force stormed the town of Awarta, south of Nablus, as a prelude to settlers storming the town to perform Talmudic prayers.

Sources told Al-Jazeera that a number of military occupation vehicles stormed the town of Awarta, and confrontations broke out with dozens of Palestinians who set rubber tires on fire and blocked roads to impede the settlers' storming, while the occupation forces fired tear gas and stun grenades at them.

And in the city of Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, clashes took place between Palestinian youths and the Israeli occupation forces, as they stormed the Ramallah Al-Tahta neighborhood.

Demolition of homes

The Israeli army also demolished 8 Palestinian homes in the West Bank under the pretext of "building without a permit."

The demolition took place, according to eyewitnesses and an activist in the settlement resistance, in the village of Al-Dyouk Al-Tahta in the Jericho Governorate, and the village of Ma'in in the Hebron Governorate (south).

Eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency that an Israeli force raided the village of Al-Dyouk Al-Tahta in the Jericho Governorate, east of the West Bank, accompanied by military bulldozers, and demolished 6 houses under the pretext of "building without a permit." The witnesses added that the houses were inhabited.

In the southern West Bank, Israeli bulldozers demolished two houses in the village of Ma'in, south of Hebron, under the same pretext, according to Fouad Al-Amor, coordinator of the "Protection and Resilience" committee in southern Hebron (non-governmental).

Al-Amour told Anadolu Agency that an Israeli force stormed the village of Ma'in and demolished two houses, claiming they were built without a permit.

The demolished homes are located in Area C, which is under Israeli control and constitutes about 60% of the West Bank.

The Israeli authorities prohibit construction or land reclamation in Area C without permits, which are nearly impossible to obtain, Palestinians say.

The Oslo II Accord (1995) classified the lands of the West Bank into 3 areas: “A” subject to full Palestinian control, “B” subject to Palestinian Israeli security, civil and administrative control, and “C” subject to Israeli civil, administrative and security control.

The force, consisting of more than 60 police and intelligence officers, took souvenir photos before leaving the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

emergency extension

Politically, the Israeli Knesset (parliament) announced, on Wednesday, the extension of the emergency law in the West Bank for an additional 5 years.

The Israeli Knesset said in a written statement, "The Knesset plenary approved in the second and third readings yesterday (Tuesday) the proposal to extend the work in the state of emergency regulations in the West Bank."

The statement added that 39 members supported the proposal in the third reading, against the opposition of 12 deputies.

The previous Israeli government failed to pass the law, which led to its downfall.

The law, which was enacted in 1967 and is extended every 5 years, provides for the treatment of settlers in the West Bank as citizens of Israel.

The law also grants powers to the Israeli authorities to enforce penalties and arrests imposed by the military authorities in the region, as well as the possibility of executing orders and penalties imposed in Israel on any citizen residing in the region.

According to international law, the settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, are illegal and the settlers' presence there is illegal.
