A young man committed suicide by shooting himself, after killing 3 people on Tuesday evening in Washington state, in an incident that the US police described as a "random assault."

This horrific crime comes in the wake of two similar shootings in California that have left 18 people dead since last Saturday.

According to police in the city of Yakima (near Seattle), a young man named Jared Haddock (21 years old) shot people at night in and around a small store before fleeing.

The city's police chief, Matt Murray, said that investigators do not yet know the motives of the attacker, noting that the shooting left 3 dead.

According to Murray, the shooting happened suddenly and without warning, as "there was no apparent conflict between the people" who were in the place, as the surveillance cameras showed that the man entered the store and then just started shooting, according to the police chief.

Murray said the gunman then exited the store and shot one of the victims, then crossed the street and apparently shot another person, before stealing Weaver's car and getting on board.

Murray revealed to reporters that the gunman called his mother and told her, "You killed these people," adding that he had mentioned during his conversation with her that "he will kill himself next."

When the police arrived at the scene of the shooting near the store, gunshots were heard, as it was found that the young man had committed suicide and died despite attempts to treat him.

Earlier on Tuesday, US President Joe Biden renewed his demand for Congress to ban assault weapons, following successive shootings in the United States over the past week.

The Yakima shooting is the latest wave of gun violence to rock the United States.

And yesterday, Tuesday, 7 people were killed and 3 others were seriously injured, in two shooting incidents in Northern California.

This incident comes two days after a 72-year-old man of Asian descent killed 11 people inside a dance hall near Los Angeles during a celebration marking the Chinese Lunar New Year.
