Virginie Girod SEASON 2022 - 202306h00, January 25, 2023

Listen to the story of Marie Bonaparte, a pioneer princess of psychoanalysis and sexology in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Marie Bonaparte is the great-grand-niece of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Heiress to her mother's fortune, but unloved by her family during her childhood, then married to a prince of Greece who is actually homosexual, she is the perfect illustration of the "unhappy little rich girl".

To give meaning to her life and satisfy her insatiable curiosity, Marie Bonaparte embarked in the 1920s on a study of women's sexuality that was to revolutionize knowledge of the time.

How did she come to look into the subject of female pleasure?

In this new episode of the podcast "At the heart of history", historian Virginie Girod recounts the youth of Marie Bonaparte.

Virginie Girod tells the story of Marie Bonaparte, descendant of Napoleon Bonaparte who marked the history of psychoanalysis in France thanks to her work in the field of sexology.

Suffering from a lung disease, Marie Bonaparte is considered a fragile child who needs to be nurtured.

But she feels cut off from the world because she is home-schooled and hardly sees anyone outside of servants.

Prisoner of her loneliness, Marie Bonaparte escapes thanks to writing, blackening the notebooks she calls “her nonsense”… This story is a Europe 1 Studio production.
