- The perpetrators who do this are usually involved in other crimes as well, says Patrik Eriksson.

According to new statistics from Brå, 1,428 robberies against people under 18 were reported last year. This is a decrease of more than 40 percent compared to the peak in 2019.

According to Brå's investigator, Anna Öström, it is a small group of people who engage in identity theft and the numbers usually go up or down over time.

"Criminals change approach"

In Gothenburg, the police partly have a different picture of the situation.

For some time now, the Gothenburg police have had a special unit that focuses on robberies.

In short, they are called the robbery group.

According to Patrik Eriksson, group manager, they work intensively to create an overall picture of what is happening around their police area.

- The approach has changed in the sense that young people communicate on social media in a different way than they did ten years ago, says Patrik Eriksson.

Eriksson believes this could be one of the explanations for the recent decline in numbers.
