Egypt condemns the tearing of the Holy Quran in the Netherlands

The Arab Republic of Egypt has expressed its deep condemnation of the leader of an extremist movement tearing up the Holy Qur’an in front of the Dutch Parliament building in The Hague, in a blatant act that goes beyond the limits of freedom of expression, violates the sanctities of Muslims, and fuels hate speech between religions and peoples, threatening the security and stability of societies.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, Egypt expressed its deep concern about the recurrence of incidents of blasphemy and the recent escalation of Islamophobia in a number of European countries, stressing the responsibility of those countries to prevent the recurrence of such practices that are inconsistent with the system of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
