It was in March last year that a 55-year-old man was shot to death at a gym in Vasastan in central Stockholm.

The man who died was not the intended victim, but was accidentally shot when he intervened to stop the shooting.

On Tuesday, charges were brought against four people involved in the murder.

One of them, who was 16 years old at the time of the shooting, is charged with murder and attempted murder, the other three are charged with aiding and abetting murder and attempted murder.

- I have prosecuted for the murder of a visitor to the gym but also for the attempted murder of another person who was there.

The investigation has shown nothing but that the person who died was not the actual target but only intervened against the perpetrator, says District Attorney Daniel Suneson.

Attaches to hand grenade attack

The indictment is also linked to two other preliminary investigations.

One is about when a hand grenade was thrown into a restaurant on Södermalm in March last year, and the other about aggravated weapons crime where, among other things, the murder weapon from the gym was found in an apartment in Johanneshov.

The charges will be taken up in the same trial.
