The Kremlin: Putin did not announce his candidacy for the presidency of Russia in 2024

The Kremlin on Monday declined to disclose Russian President Vladimir Putin's intention to run for re-election as president in 2024 when his current term ends, and said no announcements had been made on the matter.

Speculation has been growing in the Russian media about Putin's intentions for 2024 when new elections are due under Russia's constitutional rules.

"The president has not made any statements on the issue," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, when asked if Putin was planning to run for a new presidential term.
