  Jingzhou, Hubei:

Protect ancient city walls and inherit Chu culture

  Our reporter Tian Doudou

Outside the ancient city walls of Jingzhou, Hubei, rows of fiery red lanterns hang from the Binyang Tower to the ground, complementing the fiery red lanterns on the weeping willows surrounding the city, highlighting the strong flavor of the New Year.

"The ancient city wall of Jingzhou is the ancient city wall with the earliest construction time and the longest duration in China." Fu Liangchao, director of Jingzhou Culture and Tourism Bureau and party secretary, said proudly.

The ancient city was protected by city walls and surrounded by moats.

In the long course of history, many ancient city walls in China were either destroyed by wars or demolished, but the ancient city walls of Jingzhou, which were first built in the Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms, were rebuilt in the Southern Song Dynasty, and rebuilt in the Ming and Qing Dynasties after the war, survived.

"This is horse face No. 11 of the Jingzhou City Wall. We conducted two archaeological excavations in 2019 and 2022, and each time we were greatly shocked. The archeology has confirmed the history of the changes of the ancient city wall of Jingzhou from the Five Dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties!" Jingzhou Museum Tian Yong, curator of the Xiongjiazuka Site Museum, said.

The horse face refers to the piers built by the ancients along the city wall, which protrude out of the wall on the plane.

Its function is to strengthen the city body, which is convenient for observation and flanking enemy soldiers attacking the city.

The "horse face" of the "horse face skirt" comes from this.

In recent years, the No. 11 horse face not far from Binyang Tower has been repaired many times and is still on the verge of collapse. With the approval of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the Jingzhou Museum conducted archaeological excavations to find the "cause".

After the archaeologists dug up the outer wall, they found that "there is a wall within the wall".

Different from the big blue brick exterior walls that people see at present, the "wall inside the wall" is built of thin bricks, and some bricks have inscriptions or patterns on them, such as the patterns of maids, phoenix birds, and Guanyin on the lotus platform. Wonderful.

After textual research, this "wall within the wall" was built in the Five Dynasties, and the patterned bricks are the tomb bricks of the Six Dynasties, which came from the destruction of the tombs of the Five Dynasties.

The layers of rammed earth in the excavation section of the inner wall can clearly show the process of raising and strengthening the city wall layer by layer in the Song, Ming, and Qing Dynasties.

"We are applying for the protection and display of the No. 11 Mamian site, so as to make the cultural relics 'live' and let people directly see the thousand-year history of the ancient city of Jingzhou." Tian Yong said.

"Protection first, rescue first", since Jingzhou was approved as one of the first batch of historical and cultural cities in the country in 1982, according to the opinions of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the Hubei Provincial Administration of Cultural Relics, Jingzhou has successively inspected 6 ancient city gates, 5 Tibetan soldier caves and The severely damaged brick city walls and earthen city walls on the city walls have been reinforced and repaired, and the city wall itself has been effectively protected.

The first local regulation promulgated by Jingzhou City is the "Regulations on the Protection of the Ancient City of Jingzhou".

From 2012 to the end of 2022, Jingzhou has implemented a series of ancient city restoration and protection projects.

Faced with the restrictions imposed by the ancient city wall on citizens' transportation and urban development, Jingzhou City finally made a major decision to disperse the population: try to "give people to the city" instead of "cities to people".

Today's Jingzhou ancient city wall stands majestically, surrounded by clear water, with willows and flowers blooming in all seasons. It has become a good place for leisure, fitness and entertainment for Jingzhou people, and it is also a must-see representative landscape for foreign tourists.

Around the ancient city of Jingzhou, there are the ruins of the famous capital of Chu State "Ying", that is, the ruins of Jinan City, the Chu Tomb of the Xiongjia Tomb, etc. A large number of national treasure-level cultural relics such as the Goujian Sword of the King of Yue and the Huzuo Niaojia Drum were excavated here.

In the Jingzhou Museum, you can see a large number of exquisite ancient bronzes, lacquerware and jade wares.

The beautiful lacquerware with black and red, various patterns and decorations is one of the representative cultural relics of Chu culture.

The restoration and protection skills of lacquerware cultural relics are the housekeeping skills of Jingzhou Cultural Heritage Protection Center, and the production of lacquerware handicrafts is also the focus of Jingzhou's intangible cultural heritage.

In Jingjie, an antique tourist block in Jingzhou, Zou Chuanzhi, an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage in Hubei Province, and many craftsmen displayed their works of art.

"Among the lacquerware I make, there are not only imitations of famous cultural relics such as tiger seat, bird rack and drum, but also my own innovative works." Zou Chuanzhi proudly introduced that "Qushui Liushang" is a set of black and red lacquer art tea sets. , has a distinct Chu culture style, and around the round tea tray, there is a famous drawing of chariots and horses on the Chu State cultural relics "Chariots and Horses Lacquer".

Jingzhou currently has 11 national-level intangible cultural heritage representative projects, 45 provincial-level intangible cultural heritage representative projects, and 108 municipal-level intangible cultural heritage representative projects.

In Jingzhou Jingchu Intangible Cultural Heritage Skills Inheritance Institute, masters of Chu-style lacquer art, guqin making, kite making, gourd pyrography, micro-carving skills and other masters gathered together. state passed on.

The ancient city blossoms and the days are more prosperous

  Our reporter Song Haoxin

"Light up your moving voice, and let's dance beautifully!" The Spring Festival of the Year of the Rabbit is here, and the cultural performance scene of the 2023 China (Langzhong) Luoxiahong Spring Festival Cultural Expo is crowded and lively.

"Worship the source of the Spring Festival and go to Langzhong to celebrate the New Year." But what many tourists don't notice is that the kindergartens, convenience markets, fire stations, parking lots, etc. of the residents of the ancient city are actually located in the antique courtyards just passing by.

Here, the development of tourist attractions and the daily life of residents coexist harmoniously and develop together.

"I grew up at the foot of the ancient city. I saw the ancient city reappearing day by day, and there were more and more tourists. I was so happy!" Liu Jun couldn't help feeling.

Langzhong Ancient City is located on the northeastern edge of the Sichuan Basin, the middle and upper reaches of the Jialing River, and the southern foot of Qinba Mountain. Surrounded by mountains and surrounded by water, the natural and human settlements are highly coordinated.

In ancient times, Langzhong was the capital of the Ba Kingdom, known as the "City of Northern Sichuan" and "The Key of Bashu". It has always been the cultural, economic center and military fortress of northern Sichuan.

How can this ancient city with a total area of 4.59 square kilometers continue to be revitalized?

The area of ancient buildings restored has reached more than 120,000 square meters, and more than 60 culturally preserved ancient buildings have been rescued. There are more than 20 cultural venues such as the City Museum, the Wang Shadow Art Museum, and the Boryeong Vinegar Museum.

At the same time, a number of projects for the benefit and convenience of the people in the ancient city have also been promoted simultaneously, improving the living conditions of more than 5,000 households, and the residents of the ancient city feel more and more happy.

In 2022, the protection and utilization project of the ancient city of Langzhong will be further strengthened: a number of projects for the protection and utilization of the ancient city such as the infrastructure improvement project of the ancient city, the new parking lot, and the greening project of Binjiang Road will be implemented one after another; the 2022 Sichuan Culture and Tourism Development Conference will be held in Langzhong. Guests from all over the world walked into the ancient city and fell in love with it; Langzhong has also successfully established a national civilized city, a gathering area for night culture and tourism consumption in Sichuan Province...

Items of infrastructure, a series of bright data, and smiling faces of citizens are the witnesses of the integration and development of the protection and utilization of ancient cities and the cultural tourism industry.

"The ancient city of Langzhong is the cultural root of Langzhong's urban development. It is a charming window and a city card to show the image of Langzhong. In the next step, we will do a good job in the construction planning of the ancient city with an open mind, attract and retain people with characteristics, and make the ancient city Constantly release new vitality." Luanzhou, Hebei:

The cultural tourism industry promotes the income of farmers

  Our reporter Zhang Tengyang

"New year, new weather, warm heart." In the past few days, Zhao Meifang, a villager in Jiaochang Village, Luanzhou City, Hebei Province, has received many guests at her homestay. Zhao Meifang is busy and full of joy.

Before, Zhao Meifang and her husband were doing business outside, and their lives were in a hurry.

With the "fire" of the ancient city of Luanzhou, villagers in Jiaochang Village, just across the road, took advantage of the trend to start homestays.

At the beginning of 2021, Zhao Meifang and his wife returned to the village to open a homestay.

She also used the Internet to promote the ancient city of Luanzhou and show off her small courtyard, which attracted the attention of many young people.

Luanzhou City is located in the eastern part of Tangshan, Hebei. It has a history of more than 3,000 years. It has left allusions and legends such as "Bo Yi Shu Qi", "Old Horse Knows the Way", "Yang Sanjie Complains".

In 2010, relying on the profound cultural heritage and historical resources of the Luan River Basin, the local area built the Luanzhou Ancient City Scenic Spot.

Following the northern architectural style of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the ancient city has restored Sifang Ancient City Gate, Bell and Drum Tower, Jieguan Pavilion, Ancient Stage, Wind and Rain Bridge, Luanzhou Pavilion and other historical sites, and continued to stage performances based on the humanistic allusions in Luanzhou history.

At present, the ancient city of Luanzhou receives more than 8 million tourists a year.

Can keep the memory, remember the nostalgia.

The alleys are deep, the flowing water is gurgling, and the bricks and tiles are green. Wandering in the ancient streets of Luanzhou ancient city, you can see row upon row of street shops, and various intangible cultural heritages evoke people's memories...

In a corner of the ancient city, a drink shop is very popular.

Under the crowd of tourists, the clerk poured a cup of fresh yogurt into the pan, then added a little red beans, raisins, and strawberries, and kept stirring with a shovel. In less than two minutes, the liquid yogurt turned into ice cream.

"The ancient city is very popular, and the store's operating income is considerable." Hong Yu, the person in charge of the beverage store, said.

Seven years ago, Hong Yu had no stable income.

His parents are deaf and dumb, and a cow is the only source of income for the family.

In order to sell the milk in time, he rode an old electric tricycle through the streets and alleys every day.

In 2015, seeing more and more tourists in the ancient city scenic spot, he decisively rented a small shop of 50 square meters to sell his own fresh milk.

Today, in response to customer needs, he has developed a series of products such as yogurt and stir-fried yogurt, and opened two directly-operated stores in Luanzhou City. The business is getting bigger and bigger, and the days are getting more and more prosperous.

"Relying on the reputation of the ancient city, I not only succeeded in my own business, but also helped the villagers' dairy farming industry. I feel very lucky." Hong Yu said.

At present, more than 770 merchants have settled in the ancient city of Luanzhou, many of which are run by surrounding villagers.

As the popularity of the Luanzhou ancient city scenic spot continues to expand, villagers in surrounding villages are also enjoying tourism.

Jiaochang Village, which is adjacent to the scenic spot, is the first village to benefit.

In the past, most of the villagers here went out to work and do small business like Zhao Meifang, and the number of idle houses in the village continued to increase.

Since 2015, Wei Xiangchao, secretary of the village party branch, has seen business opportunities in homestays and guided the villagers to renovate their old houses, and constantly improved the hardware conditions such as roads, water, electricity and heating in the village to improve the village environment.

As a result, the villagers who went out returned to their hometowns one after another, neat rows of boutique homestays sprang up, and farm restaurants and picking gardens also came into being.

As of last year, the village has opened more than 100 characteristic homestays, receiving more than 10,000 tourists a year, and many villagers have achieved employment and become rich at their doorstep.

There is a research mountain not far from the ancient city scenic spot, and the water park and ski resort are very distinctive.

The local area guides the passenger flow from the ancient city of Luanzhou, and has accumulated strong popularity.

Chang Zhimin, a villager of Houyao Village, has worked in the ski resort for 7 years, and is now mainly responsible for the daily management of the ski resort, with a monthly income of more than 4,000 yuan.

At present, more than 40 surrounding villagers are engaged in catering, ski equipment rental, ski instructors and other work in the ski resort.

Once the winter is over, the villagers will "switch to" tourism projects such as water parks, "there is no need to worry about making money all year round."
