The media who call this case the "pipigate".

The Indian company Air India was fined 37,000 dollars (about 34,000 euros) for its handling of an incident involving a drunk American bank executive, accused of having urinated on a passenger, reported this Friday. Indian media.

On board a New York-New Delhi flight on November 26, the man, currently imprisoned for this case and denying the facts, allegedly urinated on a 72-year-old woman sitting in business class.

The suspect fired by his employer

India's civil aviation regulator has also fined Air India's director of inflight services 300,000 rupees (about 3,400 euros), local media said on Friday and Saturday.

The pilot of the flight meanwhile saw his license suspended for three months for having "failed in his duty" to ensure safety and discipline in the aircraft.

The banker, an Indian citizen by the name of Shankar Mishra, had been allowed to leave without incident after landing, without receiving any immediate sanction.

The victim then complained about the situation and, after the story was widely reported in the media, the police ended up arresting the man weeks later.

The American bank Wells Fargo then fired him from his position as vice-president of its Indian subsidiary because of these "deeply disturbing" accusations.

A precedent last month

Air India chief executive Campbell Wilson was forced to apologize in the face of heavy criticism.

Shankar Mishra has since been denied bail.

His lawyer, Ramesh Gupta, claimed at a hearing last week that the victim, an Indian classical dancer, had actually urinated on himself.

According to Indian media, Shankar Mishra's counsel also explained that it was impossible for his client to urinate on her without doing the same on another nearby passenger, who "did not file a complaint".

It is the latest incident for India's thriving airline industry, following fights and arguments with airline staff in recent months.

Another drunk passenger was accused of urinating on a woman's blanket on a flight from Paris to India last month, but no action was taken as the man issued an apology, according to several media.
