The new film by director Margarethe von Trotta about the writer Ingeborg Bachmann is in the running for the Golden Bear at the Berlinale.

Vicky Krieps and Ronald Zehrfeld play in “Ingeborg Bachmann – Journey into the Desert”.

A total of eighteen films are in the competition, as artistic director Carlo Chatrian announced in Berlin this Monday.

Among them are new projects by Christian Petzold, Christoph Hochhäusler and Emily Atef.

Atef filmed the novel "Someday we will tell each other everything" by Daniela Krien.

The book describes the relationship of a young woman to an elderly farmer.

Actress Paula Beer can be seen again in Petzold's new film "Red Sky".

Hochhäusler's project "Until the end of the night" was announced as a detective story.

Also in the running are films by director Angela Schanelec, by filmmaker Philippe Garrel and by director John Trengove, in whose film "Manodrome" the actors Jesse Eisenberg and Adrien Brody play.

Alongside Cannes and Venice, the Berlinale is one of the world's major film festivals.

The next edition is scheduled for February 16-26, this time again without pandemic restrictions.

The American actress Kristen Stewart will lead the international jury this year, the director and Oscar winner Steven Spielberg is to be honored for his life's work.
