A member of the Jordanian Parliament called on the government to revoke the nationality of actor Munther Rayhaneh because of his defense of the movie "Al-Hara", which some consider offensive to society.
Representative Suleiman Abu Yahya said in a legislative session of the House of Representatives today, Monday, January 23, 2023, that a global network recently showed a group of films that offended Jordan and Jordanians and the regions in which the scenes of those films were filmed.
Abu Yahya said, "I call on the government to revoke the citizenship of Rayhana after his fierce defense of the content of the movie Al-Hara, despite the popular discontent and rejection about the omitted words in his scenes that are outside the text of the Jordanian family."
A few days ago, the artist, Rayahna, defended the film during a telephone interview with the "Nabd Al-Balad" program on "Roya" channel, stressing that "Al-Hara" sheds light on an oppressed group in Jordanian society, which MP Abu Yahya considered "an excuse worse than sin."

Abu Yahya called for benefiting from the Turkish experience in artistic and cinematic works, which touched on an important reality in the history of the country and the positive promotion of tourism in their country and the reality of their strong economy, which attracted investors to work and the establishment of industrial cities and investment projects.
Abu Yahya asked Rayhana about his failure to act in films that tell the history of Jordan, and show the citizen's suffering in light of worry and poverty, calling on lawyers to file a lawsuit against the film's hero.

The Royal Film Commission in Jordan approved the screening of the film after deleting some obscene texts from the work, which was broadcast in Jordanian cinemas between June and August.
The events of the Oscar-nominated movie Al-Hara take place in a suffocated neighborhood, where bad social phenomena spread over people's behavior, such as gossip and violence.
The film is directed by Bassel Ghandour, who also co-wrote it.
