According to Zeit, the head of the Bundestag's defense committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, demanded "clear" statements from Scholz regarding Kyiv's military support.

“If you do not want to supply Leopard 2 to the Ukrainian army, you must explain why,” she said.

The chairman of the faction of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Rolf Mützenich, commented on her words, saying that Strack-Zimmermann "and others like her" are pushing Germany into a military conflict.

Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Oleksiy Makeev demanded that the German government allow the delivery of Leopard 2 tanks to the Ukrainian army as soon as possible.

Earlier, the Politico newspaper, citing anonymous sources familiar with the discussion, reported that Scholz announced his readiness to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine if the United States supplied Abrams tanks to Kyiv.

Later, German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that the German chancellor did not require the United States to provide Abrams tanks in order to supply Leopard to Kyiv.
