Police in the US state of Missouri have arrested the five inmates who escaped from Farmington Prison, south of St. Louis, last week.

The St. Francois County Sheriff's Department said Saturday in a statement that one of the inmates was arrested "without incident" in Missouri on Friday, while the other four were found hours later in Ohio.

"By this morning, all the escaped prisoners have been located and taken into custody," the police said.

Authorities launched a manhunt last week after the five prisoners escaped from the St. Francois County Detention Center last Tuesday.

According to US media, the escape took place in a "Hollywood" way when the prisoners entered a secured cell and then were able to exit through the door using force.

After that, they climbed to the roof of the prison through corridors containing sewage pipes, before returning to the bottom and exiting the area.

When they left, they stole a car from a nearby parking lot, and then fled with it.
